Reading:
We worked this week on the comprehension strategy of questioning. We talked about thick and thin questions and how they help us to better understand the text. Your child will be getting their first "book club" book, No Talking this week. We will meet at the Phillips house after winter break to discuss the book. More info to come!
Writing:
We all finished our first narrative (YEAH!) and began a second narrative, focusing on narrowing in on a seed idea. You'll see in the first narrative of the year, most students did a great job of telling about a specific time, trip or vacation. Now we are really trying to take a time or experience in our life and use a lot of detail to give a thorough description. We have specifically been looking at Owl Moon, Come On, Rain and Shortcut as examples for our narratives.
Math:
We finished up chapter 3 and are moving into multiplication and division for chapter 4. You'll notice on the side of the blog I added a math vocabulary list. I will put vocabulary that students continually need practice with, so if you could reinforce these terms at home it would greatly benefit your child.
Science and Social Studies:
We are beginning to study maps and globes in social studies and will learn about different landforms as well. Your child will have 3 more sessions on the human body this week and finish up next week with UW Medical students coming into school with real human organs for them to touch and see. It is always a very popular presentation and we are so lucky to have this experience!
Thanks to the families that sent in WKCE treats this past week! It will make you all happy to know that when I announced that "WKCE tests were over" a few students responded with "Awwwww, no more treats!" Although the testing was tedious, the kids really enjoyed the extra goodies before and after testing time!
I hope you all had a great weekend and I am looking forward to a "normal" week!
Mrs. Luehmann
Let us know what it's like to touch real human organs! Have a great week everyone.
